Describing Teachers

Being a teacher is kind of noble profession. Students’ success in the future is becoming the teacher’s sacrifice nowadays. The teachers will do efforts on everything to make the students be successful.
Harmer,J. (2001), states that one of the most important tasks that teachers have to perform is that organising students to do various activities. In my opinion, this will be teachers’ challenge to accomplish it considering that it is not as easy as we think. The teachers should get the students involved, engaged and ready in the class. This means that something innovative and creative should be created in class everyday.
While non-native speakers are those who has another mother tongue than the language being used. What the non-native English teacher speaker have to improve is that the proficiency of English language. The non-native English teacher speakers have to develop English fluency in all skills. This can be done by running some efforts.
Based on my experiences of being a teacher, there are several things that should be considered by the teachers in making the students are involved and feel enthusiastict in the learning activities. To accomplish it, the teacher should have the appropriate teaching style, kinds of interaction, and also use the appropriate teaching media.

In implementing the appropriate teaching style, teacher should create it by considering the students’ characteristics and the students’ ability. What should be implemented in class should be fitted by those things. It also can be supported by having the creativity, having the loud voice, and having the appropriate gesture while delivering the lesson material. Also, the teachers should conduct kinds of interaction which is creative in the class. The interesting interaction can be conducted by implementing students-teacher’s conversation, funny games, story, question and song to evoke the students’ enthusiasm. I think those activities are students’ favourite since I always use that kinds of activities in class to create students’ enthusiasm and it works well. Besides, the teacher can arise students’ curiousity. It will make them keep questioning and finding about what are going to learn. Giving question is the good way to arise students’ curiousity. For example, the teacher asks students about their last holiday. Then, after they telling their last holiday, teacher say that they are going to learn about Recount text. That method can will make students curious and want to know. Then, in using the teaching media, the teacher should use the teaching media that appropriate with the lesson and can encourage students’ attention, such as the interesting pictures, funny story, newspaper, etc.

Those are important to make students interested for the whole lesson. Also, the teachers have to be antusiastic on giving the lesson material. Teacher’s performance will influence students’ motivation a lot.

Describing Learners

Describing Learners “

Each student has different ability, characteristics and  motivation on the learning process. Among those factors in the decision about how and what to teach, motivating students is always been an issue that is commonly discussed among the teachers. According to Brophy (1998) lack of motivation still constitutes a serious problem both for teachers and students in language classrooms. What is important is to determine the causes of inadequate motivation and know how to handle with students lacking of motivation.
I strongly agree that it is seen that the teachers have to find a cause about the lack motivation on students soon. Based on William and Peter Lutes (as cited in the website www.takamatsu-u.ac.jp/library/06_gakunaisyupan/kiyo/no48/001-013_williams.pdf), “motivation is a key elements in the learning process”. That is why it is taken as an important role in the students’ interest in the classroom.
There are several reasons why students are not interested to learn. Huitt, W. (2005) states that some of the reasons are not having a believe of the ability to learn, personal problems and feeling lazy to learn. In my mind, whatever the cause of students' motivation problems, the teachers should take some efforts to overcome this problem. Firstly,  the teachers should do careful and systematic observations of student behavior. It is teacher’s obligation to know what makes the students are not eager to learn in class. Whether it is students’ negative thinking on learning ability, students’ personal problems or students’ laziness. After knowing the reasons, the teachers should decide what next way to do. Certainly, they should build a great atmosphere which can motivate students to learn in classroom.

Campbel, R & Rutherford, W. ( 2000 ) say that there are several methods of teaching languages to be conducted. They are Grammar Translation Method, Total Physical Respond, Audio-Lingual Method, Direct Method, etc. Each of them has its own approach, method and technique. Teachers should choose the appropriate method in the class based on the intended goal of the learning course in way to arise students’ motivation.

On my mind, all of those methods can be wrapped in the interesting way. Conducting the interesting learning method is believed can attrack students’ motivation. When language teaching is motivating designed, it can be useful for students’ spiirit and motivatiion development. The important point is that the learning methods can increase the students motivation to learn.

Drama Lesson in English Subject

Drama is a play which is kind of narrative genre to express human feeling. It can be played by whoever wants to express his/her acting toward the audiences of the play.
In this modern era, drama is not only performed in the big theater but also in the school area. Nowadays, drama itself is considered as the obligatory lesson for the students in some schools. Drama for Schools aims to help teachers provide an authentic, active learning experience for their students by introducing teachers to drama-based instructional strategies and helping them to apply these concepts to their lessons (Cawthon & Dawson, 2009). This will encourage the teachers to use drama-based instruction techniques.

In my opinion, giving drama lesson for students in school has many advantages both for the teacher and the students. Working together in the drama performance will gives the teacher and the students some important lessons. How to cooperate well with each other in a team is the most important lesson the students will acquire. It requires a good cooperation very much and it challenges every member to deal with varying opinions. Learning to compromise and communicate effectively with the other team members helps them work productively toward a common goal. Certainly, it will be useful for  them in designing a goal for their study plan. Also, the students can learn from the moral values of the drama being played. For the teacher, giving the drama will be the alternative teaching-learning activity. Conducting the lesson in which the students are interested on.

Air Terjun dan Goa Jepang Pundong, Saksi Atas Refleksi Perjalanan

“Nothing’s Impossible!”

“Jangan pernah menyerah jika kamu masih ingin mencoba.

Who Has to be Responsible for the Better TransJakarta

Transjakarta Busway is a bus rapid transit (BRT) system in Jakarta, Indonesia.           It is the first BRT system in Southern and Southeast Asia. Transjakarta Busway has    been operated since 2004. It began the operation on January 25, 2004.                 Transjakarta Busway has served twelve corridors as long as 184, 31 kilo meters. It has the world’s longest BRT routes (172 km in length) and has more than 669 buses in operation.
During nine years, the operational of this busway has not done well yet. There are some problems from the bus itself and the operational. Gubernur Jakarta, Jokowi said there were three main problems that should be solved soon (taken from http://metro.news.viva.co.id/news/read/370337-jokowi--masalah-busway-yang-belum-rampung)
The first problem was the lack of TransJakarta busway amount. Jokowi said that the amount of TransJakarta busway should be added. Besides that, the facilities of it should be repaired and completed. Many buses have technical issues such as broken doors and stop buttons. There are many accidents involving TransJakarta buses. Then, there are many riders which pass the busway line.
The second problem was the issue of the vehicles which pass the busway line. Nowadays, it was the main concern discussed by many people. During this time, there are many riders which pass the busway line though it is not the right way for vehicles except the busway. The busway operational time will be longer than before and it causes the pile up of the passenger.
Actually, the policemen have been keeping the busway line to make it clean from another vehicle. They also used portal to avoid the entry of another riders. However, the using of portal does not work effectively. There are still some riders who go into the busway line through the road pavement.
Why does society is relatively easy to commit violation of busway line? That is because there is no decisive law and punishment for the society. Actually, there is a fine for those who violate the rule, but there are still many vehicles which go into busway line. The fine is about fifty thousand rupiah until one hundred thousand rupiah. It is the big amount, isn’t it? Why does the society do not think that they will be punished and get fine for the violation?  They should think it over and over again since the fine for every violation.
Actually, it is not the failure of the system, but rather a problem of coordination between the Pemda DKI, Kepolisian, Kejaksaan, and Pengadilan. Their coordination is hard to be implemented.
Regarding this problem, the government of Jakarta works cooperatively with Polda Metro Jaya to conquer it. Since September 2013, they have implemented new rule in a purpose to sterilize the busway line, it is “busway sterilization (sterilisasi busway) “ program. Hopefully, this program will be the important lesson for the society to obey the law.

In this “busway sterilization (sterilisasi busway)” program, there are some policemen who will oversee the busway line. The people who still go into busway line will be punished and get fine one million rupiahs. The amount of the fine is no longer fifty thousand rupiah until one hundred thousand rupiah. Now it becomes one million rupiah. Kepolisian has socialized about this new fine to the society.

This program has purpose to make TransJakarta busway can operate freely in its own line without disturbance from other vehicles which go into busway line, to reduce the traffic jam in Jakarta and to make the society aware of the rule’s importance. TransJakarta busway line is only for the busway itself. Another vehicle should go through the right street.
However, this program is not easy to do. There are still many people who disobey the rule. They still go into the busway line though it is not their right street. Even there are some people who reverse the flow. This sterilization program needs seriousnees and effort from many sides. There are many busway lines that should be kept. The government should also think the other ways between busway sterilization.
The writer has several suggestions for the better TransJakarta busway and to reduce the traffic jam in Jakarta. The first one is adding more busways to operate. As the busway amount increases, it will reduce the traffic jam in Jakarta because it reduces the using of private vehicles. Besides that, adding more busways will suppress the buildup passengers since it still happens in many bus stops. This suggestion is for the government of Jakarta.
Then, the second one is monitoring the busway line by CCTV. CCTV (Closed-circuit television) is a video camera to monitor a specific place. The CCTV can be placed in every bus stop. By monitoring the busway line from CCTV, the police will record everything happens in the busway line as well as the riders who go into the busway line. Then, the police can write the number of the vehicle, so, when the police catches the rider, he can show the proof by playing the CCTV recording. To implement this way, the policemen should monitor the CCTV carefully and always be in around the busway line.
The third one is increasing vehicle tax. If the vehicle tax is getting more expensive, the people will tend to use public transportation or use busway to go.
The fourth one is adding the amount of TransJakarta shelter. It is needed to decrease the build up of passengers waiting for TransJakarta busway.
All of writer’s suggestions above and the busway sterilization from the government cannot work well without socialization to the society and well cooperation among Kepolisian, government, Kejaksaan, and Pengadilan.

They should work together to implement the busway sterilization which is still running on. The writer hopes they can work cooperatively and the society will be more aware to obey the rule, so that there is no traffic jam in Jakarta anymore and the society can drive safely. As well as the society that has to obey all rules
like not to go into the busway line, not to destroy TransJakarta busway facilities, etc. So, it is not only government and police’s obligation to overcome TransJakarta busway problems, but also needs the society’s obligation.

Learning in Group

Learning in group is the way in which the students learn together in group to share the knowledge. The students can often do interaction with another. They discuss, share, and contribute knowledge each other. They come to a more complete understanding by comparing with others. This is the good way to collaborate student learning and students’ social skills. They can enhance their academic achievement while developing their social skills. It helps them to develop skills in oral communication in the positive race relations with others. Thus, it will improve their social skills include their communication skill, self-esteem, intergroup relations, and also mainstreaming

Night Curfew

At this time, I’d like to share you an useful information. Guys, surely you often see the teenagers are gathering with their gangs and damaging public facilities, or maybe consuming drugs. What do you feel guys knowing this situation ? You will think that their behaviours are inappropriate and it will damage their future. So, to conquer this problem, the parents should impose  night curfew to their children. In Indonesia, it is called “jam malam”.

Night  curfew is the restriction time from the parents to the children to go out at night. Parents can choose the night curfew for their children. It can be at 9 pm, 10 pm or  even at 11 pm. For example, if parents have the 10 pm night curfew for their children, their children will not go out at night more than 10 pm. So, why parents should impose night curfew for their children?

1.      Save the children from the dangerous things
It prevents children from doing crimes because if they go out at night, they can also join into gangs and other dangerous things. They may damage pubic properties, like street lights and the sign board in the road. They may kill any one in teenage brawls. They will take drugs that their parents wont know it . A curfew helps protect the children. Besides, what would a child be doing out late at night?

2.      Parents can control what the children do at home. They can make sure what they do in home. They can ask the children to do useful activities in home like helping them, studying or even gathering with them. It also will create good relationships between child and parents. They will be the good children, staying at home with their parents.

3.      Impose discipline on children
Night curfew will force the children to make the good time management. They will set what time they have to go out from home and what time they have to go back home again.
4.      Keep them healthy:
they dont need to go out until late night. what they need is solid rest so they become healthy. They will not sleep late and so that they can feel fresh for the next day

In conclusion, night curfew is about safety, self control, time management and feeling fresh for the next day. So, the parents should impose night curfew for their chidren because of those reasons. It is for the better future of teenagers and it is for the better future of our nation !!!!

The Pleasure of Poem

Poetry is  the kind of written literature to express emotions, with varying styles and types of metaphors, similes etc.  It is the way to express our feeling. Poetry is not about truth, but about pleasure. It offers the great pleasure. In my opinion, what means by pleasure in the poetry is that the happiness or satisfaction which we gets in the poetry. The poetry offers the great pleasure if we really feel the sense of poetry. The pleasures of the poetry can be felt by writing the poem or listening to the  poem.

When we write the poem, we can feel the  pleasure found on our feeling, the rhythm, word choice, figures of speech, images. Those are the the parts to make the good poetry. In the process of writing a poem, we will let our feeling reveal freely, without restriction. It is very pleasing when our feeling can be expressed as we want. Then, the rhythm will please me by inviting us to make the line of poetry which is like dancing. The process of choosing the poetic word is also pleasing too. The way we struggle to choose the appropriate words is very challenging and offers big pleasure. It offers the pleasure in imagining or creating the words. It appeals in our sense of hearing, touching, smelling and tasting. Also, the way we compose the figures of speech in writing a poem is like the pleasing thing. A figure of speech is the use of a word or words diverging from its usual meaning. The examples are  idiom, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, personification. All of them makes the poem more exciting and certainly it will offer great pleasure.

When we read the poem,we can feel the pleasure of the pattern of sounds and tone  in poetry. Tone is the quality of voice which can express our feeling. It will determine the beauty of the poem when it is spoken. Whereas, pattern of sound is some ways we produce our voice. The art of poetry will appear when we read the poetry beautifully and with our feeling.
