Describing Teachers

Being a teacher is kind of noble profession. Students’ success in the future is becoming the teacher’s sacrifice nowadays. The teachers will do efforts on everything to make the students be successful.
Harmer,J. (2001), states that one of the most important tasks that teachers have to perform is that organising students to do various activities. In my opinion, this will be teachers’ challenge to accomplish it considering that it is not as easy as we think. The teachers should get the students involved, engaged and ready in the class. This means that something innovative and creative should be created in class everyday.
While non-native speakers are those who has another mother tongue than the language being used. What the non-native English teacher speaker have to improve is that the proficiency of English language. The non-native English teacher speakers have to develop English fluency in all skills. This can be done by running some efforts.
Based on my experiences of being a teacher, there are several things that should be considered by the teachers in making the students are involved and feel enthusiastict in the learning activities. To accomplish it, the teacher should have the appropriate teaching style, kinds of interaction, and also use the appropriate teaching media.

In implementing the appropriate teaching style, teacher should create it by considering the students’ characteristics and the students’ ability. What should be implemented in class should be fitted by those things. It also can be supported by having the creativity, having the loud voice, and having the appropriate gesture while delivering the lesson material. Also, the teachers should conduct kinds of interaction which is creative in the class. The interesting interaction can be conducted by implementing students-teacher’s conversation, funny games, story, question and song to evoke the students’ enthusiasm. I think those activities are students’ favourite since I always use that kinds of activities in class to create students’ enthusiasm and it works well. Besides, the teacher can arise students’ curiousity. It will make them keep questioning and finding about what are going to learn. Giving question is the good way to arise students’ curiousity. For example, the teacher asks students about their last holiday. Then, after they telling their last holiday, teacher say that they are going to learn about Recount text. That method can will make students curious and want to know. Then, in using the teaching media, the teacher should use the teaching media that appropriate with the lesson and can encourage students’ attention, such as the interesting pictures, funny story, newspaper, etc.

Those are important to make students interested for the whole lesson. Also, the teachers have to be antusiastic on giving the lesson material. Teacher’s performance will influence students’ motivation a lot.

Describing Learners

Describing Learners “

Each student has different ability, characteristics and  motivation on the learning process. Among those factors in the decision about how and what to teach, motivating students is always been an issue that is commonly discussed among the teachers. According to Brophy (1998) lack of motivation still constitutes a serious problem both for teachers and students in language classrooms. What is important is to determine the causes of inadequate motivation and know how to handle with students lacking of motivation.
I strongly agree that it is seen that the teachers have to find a cause about the lack motivation on students soon. Based on William and Peter Lutes (as cited in the website www.takamatsu-u.ac.jp/library/06_gakunaisyupan/kiyo/no48/001-013_williams.pdf), “motivation is a key elements in the learning process”. That is why it is taken as an important role in the students’ interest in the classroom.
There are several reasons why students are not interested to learn. Huitt, W. (2005) states that some of the reasons are not having a believe of the ability to learn, personal problems and feeling lazy to learn. In my mind, whatever the cause of students' motivation problems, the teachers should take some efforts to overcome this problem. Firstly,  the teachers should do careful and systematic observations of student behavior. It is teacher’s obligation to know what makes the students are not eager to learn in class. Whether it is students’ negative thinking on learning ability, students’ personal problems or students’ laziness. After knowing the reasons, the teachers should decide what next way to do. Certainly, they should build a great atmosphere which can motivate students to learn in classroom.

Campbel, R & Rutherford, W. ( 2000 ) say that there are several methods of teaching languages to be conducted. They are Grammar Translation Method, Total Physical Respond, Audio-Lingual Method, Direct Method, etc. Each of them has its own approach, method and technique. Teachers should choose the appropriate method in the class based on the intended goal of the learning course in way to arise students’ motivation.

On my mind, all of those methods can be wrapped in the interesting way. Conducting the interesting learning method is believed can attrack students’ motivation. When language teaching is motivating designed, it can be useful for students’ spiirit and motivatiion development. The important point is that the learning methods can increase the students motivation to learn.

Drama Lesson in English Subject

Drama is a play which is kind of narrative genre to express human feeling. It can be played by whoever wants to express his/her acting toward the audiences of the play.
In this modern era, drama is not only performed in the big theater but also in the school area. Nowadays, drama itself is considered as the obligatory lesson for the students in some schools. Drama for Schools aims to help teachers provide an authentic, active learning experience for their students by introducing teachers to drama-based instructional strategies and helping them to apply these concepts to their lessons (Cawthon & Dawson, 2009). This will encourage the teachers to use drama-based instruction techniques.

In my opinion, giving drama lesson for students in school has many advantages both for the teacher and the students. Working together in the drama performance will gives the teacher and the students some important lessons. How to cooperate well with each other in a team is the most important lesson the students will acquire. It requires a good cooperation very much and it challenges every member to deal with varying opinions. Learning to compromise and communicate effectively with the other team members helps them work productively toward a common goal. Certainly, it will be useful for  them in designing a goal for their study plan. Also, the students can learn from the moral values of the drama being played. For the teacher, giving the drama will be the alternative teaching-learning activity. Conducting the lesson in which the students are interested on.
